Integrated Management Systems
Mike Harris, Associate Director, Manager Business Systems, Australia New Zealand, AECOM
Companies are being expected to operate more efficiently at less cost but deliver more innovatively. An integrated management system (IMS) can greatly assist in achieving this strategic objective. An IMS is a management system that integrates all of an organization's systems and processes in to one complete framework, enabling an organization to work as a single unit with unified objectives. Adopting an integrated approach to management systems will help change ‘silo’ structured organisations.
This presentation will start with a layman’s description of an IMS. A case study will be used to show how the quality, environment and safety requirements of ISO standards can be effectively integrated into a single system, which results in a holistic set of documents making it easier. Using this technique makes it easier to implement management systems and thus comply to the ISO standards to achieve certification.
