Effective process-based auditing and the differences to compliance auditing
We often make reference to “compliance” and “process-based” auditing but not everyone understands the difference and why each is relevant. Mark is a practical auditor and acknowledges that there are many approaches to auditing management systems. He will use his knowledge and experience to provide his thoughts on:

  • The various auditing methodologies and the value that each might provide.
  • 2nd party and 3rd party auditing.
  • Vertical auditing and horizontal auditing.
  • Auditing effectiveness.
  • Auditor attributes as reflected in the ISO-17021 series.

Mark has been a 3rd party Lead Auditor since 1994 and has worked in the Certification industry for over 20 years with Australia’s largest certifying body. His time with SAI Global has included a variety of roles although Mark has maintained his auditing roots.

His auditing has found him within many industry sectors and has been witness to the good, the bad and the ugly! He has been an advocate of process based auditing and has provided training to auditors around Australia and neighbouring countries on process-based auditing.

One of Mark’s responsibilities over the past 8 years has been recruitment and training of 3rd party auditors. He has a passion for training and has presented to industry associations and peers on many occasions, as well as being a contributor to past revisions of ISO9001.

  • Sustainment – with Enterprise Connect Continuous Improvement Programs, Six Sigma™, Lean (Krafcik) and other initiatives based upon process management, ISO 9001:2015 CD provides a structure to better sustain and embed these improvements within you QMS or IMS.
